Project 2 - Room & Narrative
The Painting:
It is interesting how the painting does not show any windows but reveals a glimpse of one through a reflection from a mirror. Another interesting aspect is the girl seemingly looking at a person or an object which is hidden from the viewer's sight. A combination of these aspects inspired me to develop my narrative.

Concepts & Experimentation of Materials
Final Model and Drawings
The Seat
The seat is for the visiting relatives and friends of the old man. It is connected to the opening outside through an underground tunnel. The purpose of this is to allow sunlight to come through the tunnel and reflect back under the seat, illuminating it in the process. The sun-lit seat is a representation of the "life" that the visiting family and friends, in contrast to the bed of the old man.

The Bath
The raised platform with a glass panel on top surrounds the bath area and extends into the interior. The cut around the wall allows the sunlight to reflect from the glass and illuminate the bathroom. This compliments the process of bathing which is associated with rejuvenation and cleansing.
The Bed
The most significant aspect of the room is the relationship between the window, the mirror and the bed. Since the site, as stated previously, is a park where the old man used to play with his friends when he was a young boy, it is very fimiliar with him. Now, he sees the children playing and all the other activities that are taking place in the park through the window via the reflections created by the mirror. He is reflecting on his past, reminiscing the memories, on his deathbed. This can relate to the quote in the brief "Eyes are the windows of the soul" since if the window is the eye then the room can be represented as the mind of the ailing man.
